ANECT Employees Donated 18.5 Litres of Blood
On 22 April 2010, the Czech IT company ANECT a.s. organized the third "Blood Donors Day" for its employees. Company volunteers could donate their blood in the Prague office or in the facilities of Brno University Hospital. This time there were forty-two employees altogether who joined the event and donated 18.5 litres of blood for hospitals.
"Statistically speaking, every citizen of the Czech Republic receives four blood transfusions in their life and twelve preparations made from human blood. Unfortunately, no one has found a way to produce human blood artificially yet, and the number of regular blood donors in the population remains very low – despite the fact that the blood donation process (the result of which can later save somebody´s life) is not longer than some fifteen minutes, and your blood usually recovers completely in a few weeks," says Petr Nosek, the Chair of the ANECT Fund Board.
In ANECT´s Prague office, blood was donated with professional assistance of the Prague Central Military Hospital staff. The Blood Donors Day was also attended by employees from other companies: Shell, Deloitte, Dell, iCOM Vision, and Madison PA. The event was organized by the ANECT Fund Board (a board of company employees), which is in charge of selecting and managing various company philanthropy projects.
The ANECT Fund Board has already organized a number of socially beneficial events in the past – "Money for the victims of the Haiti tragedy", Community Days, on which our employees helped various socially disadvantaged groups, as well as a benefit exhibition with our staff´s photographs, the proceeds of which were used for "Mikulášské zimní hrátky" – a Christmas entertaining performance in the Home of mentally-handicapped people.
