Sun Microsystems is world leader in delivering hardware, software and solutions for network environment security and unlimited availability of network services. Since it was founded in 1982, the company has been focusing on developing products and technologies built on open standards, which allow their users to create flexible computing environments. With this strategy Sun has developed technologies such as NFS, Solaris operating system, SPARC architecture, Java and StarOffice software for office work. According to the European Commission, Sun Microsystems is now the largest producer of open source software. The company develops environmentally friendly technologies, and Fortune magazine called it the "world´s greenest computer company" in 2007.
The company product portfolio also includes other components of information systems, such as disk arrays, backup systems, servers on UltraSPARC, AMD and Intel platforms, high-performance work stations, network computers, Solaris and Trusted Solaris operating systems, infrastructure software, and last but not least also development tools and Java technologies, which became a new trend and standard in networking, application development, all kinds of Internet activities, and IT in general.
Sun Microsystems has been in the Czech market since 1994. At the moment, the company has about 450 employees, most of them being highly qualified specialists - sales managers, technology specialists and programming engineers. Sun Microsystems Czech Republic is also one of the largest development centers outside the US. The center was established after acquisition of NetBeans in 1999 and specializes in creating programming tools for Java application development.
